Lampton Elementary School will have Mrs. Elisa Erickson working as a mentor/coach to our teachers courtesy of a highly competitive grant from the Cotsen Foundation for the Art of Teaching. Only six schools in the LA/Orange County area are receiving this prestigious grant support, of which Lampton is fortunate to be one. The Cotsen Foundation will be paying for half of Mrs. Erickson's annual salary, a value to our school of more than $75,000. Mrs. Erickson has received extensive training by the foundation for the the last two years as she mentored a group of 6-7 Lampton teachers who were participating in a professional development fellowship with the Cotsen Foundation. In the coming year, Mrs. Erickson will work with two grade levels of teachers each trimester as our school embarks on a three year training plan for mathematics.
Additionally, the Cotsen Foundation has also funded over $25,000 for training primary grade teachers on the research based mathematics strategies of Counting Collections and Choral Counting. This professional development opportunity was collaboratively planned and sought by, Lampton, Morrison and Escalona Elementary Schools, which are all within the Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District. Our three schools will be learning and working together to improve mathematics instruction across our district. Congratulations, Dolphins!
