California Department of Education Announces 2022 California Pivotal Practice Award Winners

Great news out of the California Department of Education (CDE) as it announced the 2022 California Pivotal Practice (CAPP) Award winners.

Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District was honored with 14 selections, one of highest numbers among Districts in Los Angeles County. The CAPP awards program is being utilized by the state this year in place of the California Distinguished Schools program.

The 14 selections consist of 13 schools and the District receiving honors. The list of schools are:
  • Eastwood Elementary School
  • D.D. Johnston Elementary School
  • John Foster Dulles Elementary School
  • Gardenhill Elementary School
  • Anna M. Glazier Elementary School
  • La Pluma Elementary School
  • Loretta Lampton Elementary School
  • Julia B. Morrison Elementary School
  • Corvallis Middle STEAM Magnet
  • Arlie F. Hutchinson Middle School
  • Los Alisos Middle School
  • Nettie L. Waite Middle School
  • La Mirada High School
In a period when pandemic disruptions made it hard to collect data for statewide assessments, the California Department of Education worked with education association partners to create the CAPP Award to honor the efforts of schools and districts who designed and implemented unique opportunities and strategies to support their students.

Schools and school districts are being honored for demonstrated efforts in four target areas:
- Student Engagement
- Distribution of Technology
- Nutrition Services
- Social and Emotional Well-Being of Students

CAPP Award winners completed an online application highlighting an innovative practice in one of the four target areas that was implemented during the 2020–21 school year. It is anticipated that the CDE will transition back to the California DS Program in 2023.
